Solus
Sensors is a start-up company located in the new OpTIC Technium Centre in St Asaph,
Wales. It was formed in May 2004 to provide innovative sensor solutions for the
chemical, petrochemical and water industries.
We
specialise in the use of distributed fibre optic sensor technology for the
detection and location of liquid spills over long distances using advanced
polymers and the novel use of existing technologies.
The
sensors can be custom designed to detect the presence of a wide range of liquids
such as water, hydrocarbon fuels or volatile solvents. In addition, it is
possible to design a sensor that will detect variations in the physical
properties of a liquid such as changes in pH or changes in ionic concentration.
Distributed
sensors utilise advanced fibre optic techniques to detect changes in the
physical characteristics along the length of the optical fibre. These
measurements are then used in an increasing number of industries to
provide important information about the condition of the immediate
environment in which the optical fibres are situated.
Shortly after being formed, Solus Sensors
won the North Wales regional award in the Technium Challenge, a pan-Wales
business plan competition.
